DAKHLA, CAPITAL OF SPORTS?

The president of the ACES (European Capital and Cities of Sports Federation), Gian Francesco Lupattelli, could well award Dakhla his “Capital of Sports” label. Allegedly Gian Francesco Lupattelli met with the mayor of Dakhla, Sidi Slouh el-Joumani, on 8 November 2019 to confirm the process.

Indeed, there are increasing activities in Dakhla.

On 15.11.2019 the first edition of the Intercontinental Cup of Padel took place in Dakhla, a sportevent first time in Morocco – and Africa too – with almost 50 of the best international participants of this discipline.

Besides the Moroccan paddlers, experienced competitors from France, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, the Principality of Monaco and Senegal teamed up to fight in a friendly and festive atmosphere.

On the occasion of the opening of this first edition of the Intercontinental Cup of Padel, Claude Baigts, President of the European Association of Padel Clubs, announced the likely founding of the Moroccan Association of Padel.

The Dakhla World Kitesurfing Championship “Prince Moulay El Hassan Kite World Cup” celebrated its 10th anniversary from the 4th to the 13th of October 2019! 100 of the best international participants in the disciplines freestyle and strapless were honored.

The “Prince Moulay El Hassan Kite World Cup” also sets an example for citizenship and environmental responsibility. Cleaning activities for the competition sites were organised, in particular young people from the region and students from the Ecole Nationale de Commerce et de Gestion (ENCG) in Dakhla had free access to the shows in the various competition sites.
